Getting Here is easy. (See map below for driving times from airports around Florida).
Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is only about an hour from the islands.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Go to Exit 131 from I-75. (If coming from RSW Airport, TURN RIGHT on Treeline Road and take that to Daniels. TURN LEFT on Daniels).
Continue west on Exit 131 (Daniels Road) until you come to a stoplight for Six Mile Cypress; there's a shopping center and Publix grocery to the left.
TURN LEFT onto Six Mile Cypress. You'll curve past the Lee County Sports Complex and cross US-41. Once you
cross US-41, you're now on Gladiolus. When you pass Denny's Diner, move to the left lanes. TURN LEFT onto Summerlin Road.
This will take you all the way to the Sanibel Causeway.
THE
CAUSEWAY: Have the $6 toll handy. Don't be in a hurry on the Sanibel causeway; speed limits are LOW and the
scenery is some of the best in the world. This is a great place to take a stretch if you've been in the car a while.
There are restrooms on one of the causeway islands.
FLYING:
All the major airlines fly into Ft. Myers (RSW), Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Value-oriented USA3000, Spirt, Jet Blue and
ATA all fly right into Ft. Myers with many direct flights from major cities. (see full list of nonstop flight cities below)
Southwest Airlines flies into Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale. Ft. Lauderdale is the easiest airport commute from a major
city, but Tampa's not hard, just avoid I-4 and take 275 to I-75. Sarasota-Bradenton and Naples have limited airline
service. Private jets can fly into RSW or Page Field at Ft. Myers.
TAXIS
If you are not renting a car, transportation from RSW can be arranged ahead of time by calling
Sanibel Taxi at 239.472.4160. Fares will be approximately $60 for up to three passengers; each additional passenger is
$10. Taxi rates in SW Florida are determined by zone, not meter. You can get more information and see zone rates by
