GETTING HEREGetting to Sanibel Island is easy. It takes approximately 45 minutes to drive from Fort Myers' Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and I-75.
Continue on Daniels until you come to a stoplight at Six Mile Cypress; Turn LEFT onto Six Mile Cypress. You will curve past the Lee County Sports Complex and cross US-41. Once you cross US-41, the road is now called Gladiolus. Continue to Summerlin Road and turn LEFT onto Summerlin. This will take you all the way to the Sanibel Causeway. ![]()
THE CAUSEWAY:As you approach the Causeway to Sanibel stay in the right lanes and have the $6 toll handy. Change can be made at the booth if necessary. Take your time crossing; speed limits are LOW (and enforced) and the scenery is some of the best anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled - you may see dolphin in the water below you! Once you have crossed the Causeway, you are on Sanibel.
FLYING:Check our Travel Deals page to see the latest ticket savings into Fort Myers. All the major airlines fly into RSW. Value-oriented AirTran, Spirit and Southwest have direct flights from major cities. Private jets can fly into RSW or Page Field at Ft. Myers.
TAXISIf you are not renting a car, transportation from RSW can be arranged ahead of time by calling Sanibel Taxi at 239.472.4160. Fares are approximately $60 for up to three passengers; each additional passenger is $10. Taxi rates in SW Florida are determined by zone, not meter.
