![]() Several out-islands are easy to reach from Sanibel
and Captiva. Our closest neighbor is North
Captiva, just to the north of Captiva. This secluded barrier island
was formed when an early 20th centry storm blew the two islands apart.
Many islanders enjoy boating to North Captiva for lunch. The island
is reached only by boat or airplane (there's a grass strip on its
northern end). There are also accommodations on this island. East of Captiva and north of Sanibel lies unique Pine Island, for which Pine Island Sound was named. This large island is home to a multitude of tropical fruit farms, commercial fishermen, Olde Florida families, and those just discovering this great area. Pine Island has several marinas, but no beaches; residents love its rural nature. |
